The Miss-Lou Military Museum

The Miss-Lou Military Museum and Veterans Welcome/Information Center opened in Natchez on Nov. 12, 2023, at 107 Jefferson Davis Blvd. The museum is operated by the Home With Heroes Foundation Inc., a private non-profit organization helping and honoring veterans and their loved ones. The hours are Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the first and third Saturdays of the month, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It is a self-guided museum with plenty of signage to explain the exhibits. Created as a tribute to veterans who served during foreign wars, the museum takes pride in showing one of the most accurate and exquisite collections of GI Joe figures. More than 60 Joes greet visitors on lighted shelving. They were created and donated by a former Green Beret, who is one of the museum’s greeters. Also on display are many maps, artifacts, a patriotic quilt, medals, and uniforms, including an original “Rosie the Riveter” work suit, and a welder’s hood worn by a young woman who worked in the Naval shipyards during World War II. A prized exhibit is “Never Forget,” a display of photos and descriptions of young men and women from Mississippi who were killed in action in the Gulf Wars. Young visitors have delighted with the “Try Me” section where they can don actual military items: jackets, caps, helmets, caps, and more. Friendly greeters will be on hand to help. Veterans can stop by the Welcome Center, have a coffee, relax, and enjoy each other’s company. For more information contact Home With Heroes President G.
