Stay tuned because the Mississippi Museum Trail is becoming a reality in Jackson, Mississippi. There are multiple museums in the area (Mississippi Museum of Art, Mississippi Children’s Museum, Mississippi Science Museum, Mississippi Agricultural Museum, Municipal Art Gallery, the Two Mississippi Museums (History and Civil Rights), Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center, Mississippi Music Experience inside the Iron Horse Grill, Mississippi Blues Museum (new and newly located on 3242 N. State Street, Jackson).
The inception of the trail was the idea of two individuals who united with a group to become the “Jackson Trailblazers.” The trail will run along the old Gulf Mobile & Ohio railroad line on the backside of the Belhaven community. The first phase of the trail is approximately 1.7 miles. Phase 2 will run along the Waterworks Curve. Phase 3 will connect to LeFleur’s Park. There will be a pedestrian bridge connecting the neighborhood near LeFleur’s Park to the Downtown Jackson area and will end at Jackson State University. Once completed, the trail will connect Northeast Jackson, downtown, and West Jackson for a total of close to five miles.
To date, Phase 1 and 2 are complete. This trail is different from the blues and country music trails in Mississippi because it celebrates greenspace and encourages exercise and recreation with points of interests into parks (3), museums, and art (museum, galleries, the Farmer’s Market, the Mississippi Museum of Art garden, the Jackson Convention Complex, the Planetarium, the Mississippi Trademart and Coliseum.
